Trip Description

The Train Ride…
Your adventure begins at the train depot in downtown Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, Canada. As the train pulls away from the depot you will pass through the city's industrial area, but within minutes the forests will begin to take over, offering a very unique contrast. As the train winds its way northward, a rugged winter wonderland will unfold before you. Snow laden trees will give way to panoramic views, towering trestles, snow-choked rock cuts, frozen lakes and waterfalls transformed into fantastic ice sculptures by the cold breath of winter. At mile 102 you will begin to descend 500 feet over the next twelve miles to the floor of the famous Agawa Canyon. You will experience all of this, nestled comfortably in your reclining seat as the warmth of your picture-window coach keeps 'old-man-winter's' temperatures at bay.

The Lodge & Winter Activities…
Arriving at mile 122, our group will be met by our hosts from the Windy Lake Lodge. After brief introductions, the staff will transport your luggage to the cabins as we ski in the final two miles. Once at the cabins, gourmet meals will be cooked by your guides as you enjoy four days of cross country skiing and snowshoeing in the remote Canadian backcountry. From the lodge you will be able to enjoy over 50 km of cross-country ski trails carved through the pristine Canadian wilderness. The trails are freshly brushed out in the fall and then groomed to perfection
