Trip Description

Prolong your warm weather paddling and head down to Georgia’s Tybee Island with the Geneva Kayak Center and Sea Kayak Georgia! Participants of all ability levels will enjoy warm weather and water, excellent coaching and a range of possible paddling opportunities. From rough water kayaking in the surf to serene back-river paddling on tidal creeks, Tybee has it all! Our group will be staying at a beautiful guesthouse overlooking tidal creeks with prime views of the setting sun at night. Each day, we’ll head out to paddle the waters around Tybee Island. Beginner trips will enjoy paddling on creeks through a sea of grass, or perhaps head out to learn the basics of sea kayak surfing on smaller days. Intermediate and advanced trips include night navigation, surfing in the triangle and rescue practice. “Who knows?” on one of our days out, we may decide to paddle as a whole group!

Our lodging for the week is the Outdoor Inn, located next to Sea Kayak Georgia’s school of coastal kayaking. Breakfast and Lunch are both provided on the trip and while some of our past clients would say our guides’ cooking is gourmet, we only make that claim that it is healthy, balanced and will prepare you for your day on the water. After a day of paddling, Tybee Island has many restaurants, beaches, and an active social scene.

Our Adventure Paddling Trips are for the paddler seeking to develop his or her paddling skills and seamanship while journeying on the sea by kayak. These trips combine both inn accommodations and backcountry camping as we often paddle into remote areas. The Tybee Island surf trip is rated a GKC Level 2-4 trip and is Inn-Based. Participants’ enjoyment of the trip will be greatly enhanced by taking advantage of the numerous training opportunities that Geneva Kayak Center offers. The proper level of training will depend on what level of paddling you hope to do in Georgia. Please contact our staff members with questions about training leading up the adventure.

Included in the price of the trip is lodging at the Outdoor Inn, breakfast and lunches, SKUK kayaks, transportation while on Tybee Island, and coaching. Personal clothing and paddling gear are not included.


Itinerary

Day 1
GKC Staff will pick up participants who are flying in at the airport in Savannah, GA at 2pm. For those who are driving to Tybee Island, you can check into your accommodations anytime after 3pm. Following an orientation to the trip, our group can head out to one of the local restaurants for the first night’s dinner.
Days 2 - 5
Each day, the trip guides will prepare a breakfast for the group as well as pack lunches for the day. Following breakfast we will head over the to the center for debrief on the day’s paddling activities and depart for the water. Participants should plan on being on the water each day through lunch and off the water in the early afternoon (around 3pm). As this is an all levels trip, some group members may have slightly different schedules, but participants will always have the choice of which day trip they would like to go on.
Day 6
Following another wonderful breakfast, GKC staff will transport participants to the airport in Savannah in time for 10am flights. A later breakfast will be served for those who have later departures, as a second trip to the airport will be made in time for 1pm flights
