BCU Coach/ACA Instructor Certification

The Geneva Kayak Center offers coach/instructor trainings and certification through both the ACA and BCU. We offer ACA certification through the Open Water level and BCU certification through Coach Level 3 . For a complete syllabus of the courses, please click on the link below for the pdf files.

ACA Intro to Kayak Instructor Certification (IDW/ICE)

Our ACA Intro to Kayak Instructor Certification is a 2-day workshop with 1 day of evaluation. This certification is for Instructors who will teach on calm sheltered water in a light wind environment. Instructors are authorized to teach students fundamental skills including identifying hazards, basic concepts in craft handling and self- rescues in calm waters such as lakes or ponds.


ACA Basic/Open Water Coastal Kayak Certification (IDW/ICE)

Our ACA Coastal Kayaking Certification is comprised of a 3-day Instructor Development Workshop (IDW) and a 3-day Instructor Certification Evaluation (ICE). Developed for those involved in teaching sea kayak skills, boat handling and the necessary skills for safe craft handling in open water or tidal areas. These programs cover all paddling and navigation issues, including tidal and current reading skills, craft handling for wind and surf areas and self rescue in open water.

BCU Coach Level 1 Combined Training & Assessment

The new BCU UKCC (United Kingdom Coaching Certificate) Coach Level 1 is a 4 day program that incorporates a series of 5 mini assessments throughout the course. The Level 1 coach can plan, deliver and review short coaching sessions. They can work with paddlers at any stage of experience but receive special training to coach paddlers in their first year of development. Coach Level 1 is a general paddlesport coaching award, not discipline specific. Prerequisites: Foundation Safety & Rescue Training and 2 Star award. Preregistration with BCU North America required.

BCU Coach Level 2 Training & Assessment

The new BCU UKCC Coach Level 2 Training is a 4 day program where participants will learn to develop their coaching tool box. A coach Level 2 is oriented towards coaching students in their first 3 years of paddling. The Level 2 coach will also have the sklils to create a progression of teaching sessions for their students.



BCU Coach Level 3 Training & Assessment

The new BCU Coach Level 3 course is still in development and is expected to roll out sometime in 2010.
