Coaching/Instructor Certification
The Geneva Kayak Center offers coach/instructor trainings and certification through both the ACA and BCU. We offer ACA certification through the Open Water level and BCU certification through the Coach 2 Level (Coach 3 Training is offered). ACA Intro to Kayak Instructor Certification (IDW/ICE)
Our ACA Intro to Kayak Instructor Certification is a 2-day workshop with 1 day of evaluation. This certification is for Instructors who will teach on calm sheltered water in a light wind environment. Instructors are authorized to teach students fundamental skills including identifying hazards, basic concepts in craft handling and self- rescues in calm waters such as lakes or ponds.ACA Basic/Open Water Coastal Kayak Certification (IDW/ICE)
Our ACA Coastal Kayaking Certification is comprised of a 3-day Instructor Development Workshop (IDW) and a 3-day Instructor Certification Evaluation (ICE). Developed for those involved in teaching sea kayak skills, boat handling and the necessary skills for safe crafting handling in open water or tidal areas. These programs cover all paddling and navigation issues, including among other things tidal and current reading skills, craft handling for wind and surf areas and self rescue in open water.BCU Coach 2 Training/Award
Our BCU Coach Level 2 Training is a two-day course held on protected waterways. Possessing a 3 star award and the CST is a pre-requiste for Coach Level 2 training. The Coach Level 2 Training is designed to provide a qualification for those wishing to introduce others to kayaking on very sheltered coastal areas. It is an indication of a level of competence for introducing groups to the standard of the BCU 2 Star Test and 3 Star Training. Coach Level 2 assessments may be taken by those with Coach 2 training, after a pre-requisite number of hours of assisting have been performedBCU Coach 3 Training/Award
Our Coach Level 3 training is a two-day course on open water. Coach 3 is the correct grade for a person to be in charge of kayaking activities which includes expeditioning on the open sea (including surfing).
