GKC Level 3 Coastal Kayak Immersion Weekend
Note: You can take this class at it's normally scheduled location at IL Beach State Park in Winthrop Harbor or you can learn this material in an amazing destination on our Devil's Island L3 Destination Course
Geneva Kayak’s Level 3 Coastal Kayak Immersion Weekend is the most comprehensive intermediate sea kayak training available between the coasts! This training is designed to prepare the sea kayaker for either the ACA L3 Coastal Skills assessment or the BCU 3 Star Sea Award assessment and to increase the level of skill, understanding and knowledge demonstrated at the intermediate level. This course is designed for a coastal/sea environment with winds up to Force 4 (11-16 knots) and a sea State 3 (waves to 3 feet), and is to be taken in a kayak suitable for journeying on the sea.

What to wear and bring to your class
In the Level 3 course a part of the day involves intentionally getting out of the boat and into the water; you should dress for both the air and water temperatures.
appropriate paddling attire for lakes Michigan and Superior:
- Synthetic Base Layer (like non-cotton long underwear)
- Additional synthetic layer
- Waterproof pants
- Long sleeve top
- Farmer john wetsuit
- Drysuit
- Fleece or wool hat
- Neoprene booties, water shoes, sandals with heel straps (no flip flops or shoes with laces)
- Dry clothes in a drybag to change into
Additional items you may want to bring include:
- Towbelt
- Bilge pump
- Compass, handheld or deck mounted
- Sunscreen
- Towel
