rough water 2

Rough Water 2 (2 days)

Rough Water Boat Handling 2 is designed to take the sea kayaker with basic rough water skills and prepare them for coastal paddling in areas with tidal currents, races and overfalls in addition to surf, swell and winds. Specific skills that we will work on include breaking in and out of current, surfing, rescues, strokes and more. There may also be "classroom" time spent working on tidal theory.

Rough Water Boat Handling 2 will utilize the Menominee River in Northern Wisconsin to teach rough water sea kayaking skills. If there is ample surf or rough water on Lake Michigan during the weekend, we may include this in the course. Participants DO NOT need to be skilled whitewater paddlers as the areas we will be teaching in are specifically chosen for use with sea kayaks.

The course does not include lodging or meals. There is nearby camping in both Morgan County Park Google map link and Goodman County Park as well as hotels in Iron Mountain.

Polyethylene kayaks are strongly recommended for this class and are available to rent.

* It is recommended to plan for lodging on Friday evening in the nearby vicinity as we will be getting an early start on Saturday morning.
