Sea Kayak Surfing

Geneva Kayak Center’s kayak surfing workshops are designed to help you have fun and be safe while traveling through and playing in breaking waves, swells, following seas and rough conditions. While not well known as a surf “locale”, the Great Lakes (we use Lake Michigan for our beginner workshop) are a “great” place to hone your kayak surfing skills. Wind waves on Lake Michigan are usually in the 2-4 ft range but have been known to reach 15-18 feet in height! For our beginner surf clinics, conditions we host the workshop in are 2-4 foot seas

Beginner Surf Workshop (2 days)

ACA or BCU level 2 training or equivalent skills are pre-requisite for this course. This 2-day workshop is designed to give students background knowledge on waves and teach the basics of paddling in them. The first day is part classroom and part on the water and is hosted at the Geneva Kayak Center. On the second day we travel to Lake Michigan to experience the surf.

ACA or BCU level 3 training or equivalent skills are a prerequisite for this course This workshop is designed to fine-tune your sea kayak surfing skills. Due to the inability to predict when appropriate surf conditions will be available we are offering the surf classes on a short term notification basis. Just let us know that you're interested in a surf class and we'll let you know by email a day or 2 in advance of the meeting time and place.
