Whitewater I - Intro to Whitewater Paddling & Rolling

Want to learn the fundamentals of paddling in a whitewater kayak? Whitewater I is a Geneva Kayak Center course designed to introduce paddlers to whitewater kayaks and basic paddling strokes/maneuvers in modern whitewater boats. We’ll spend the first half of the day learning about the boats, and practicing basics strokes on flatwater. The second part of the day will introduce rolling and performing eddy turns and peel outs as we run some class 1-2 whitewater. The day includes training on the following skills:
  • Lifting, Carrying, Launching and Landing
  • Efficient Forward Paddling
  • Reverse Paddling and Stopping
  • Moving the Kayak Sideways
  • Preventing Capsize
  • Turning
  • Self-Rescue
  • T-Rescue (Whitewater)
  • Eddy Turns and Peel Outs
  • Running Class 1-2 Whitewater

This course is the pre-requisite for or Whitewater II course if the participant has no experience with whitewater kayaking, and is also good stand alone course even if the participant does not want to move on to Whitewater II.
